Banja Luka is the capital city of the Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located near Croatia and with a population of around 200.000. Banja Luka’s University Hospital (https://www.kc-bl.com/En/), which comprises different buildings in two different locations, has been recently reconstructed and enlarged thanks to the financing of the European Investment Bank (EIB). The project started back in 2014 and finished last October (2018).
Hospital reconstruction focused on the central building, including 7 stories for inpatient wards and the central pharmacy. Hospital enlargement consisted on the construction of a new building hosting 12 operating theatres, the central sterilization services, a new emergency room, pathology services and the clinical lab.
The contracting framework from the Ministry of Health and the European Investment Bank included the design and execution of all required works. The Austrian health-care group Vamed was awarded the contract, while the project supervision was developed by the American multinational Aecom. BIOREM complemented Aecom’s team for the supervision of medical equipment management (equipment plan and ICT works).
The reconstructed central building re-opened in early 2017 while the new building last September (2018).
